You learn something every week. Bob Odell 1955 Topps All-American football cardThis week I learned from a post in the Collectors Universe forums that the player pictured on Bob Odell’s 1955 Topps All-American card is not Bob Odell. The impostor is Howard Odell, Bob’s older brother, who played at the University of Pittsburgh. For details–and to see many more cards that picture the wrong player–see the Mistaken Identities page of the Vintage Football Card Gallery.

    Hello-
Thanks for posting the information about Bob Odell’s card.
The letter from his family to the blogger was very touching.
I went back to my All Americans website (listed above) and was glad to see I had included the Odell card among the set errors. Your introduction to the set on your blog has a link to my website. It’s actually a very old site, but the information is still good and I hope it helps collectors. Your link to my site identifies me as a BC student-I’m actually a reference librarian at the BC Law School Library. I put this website together when I was first learning how to work with html/websites, etc, many years ago.
I completed a 1955 Topps AA set a few years ago, and shocked my son when I spent about $200 for a PSA5 Jim Thorpe. He didn’t think the old man would spend that much on a FB card but it had such great centering I couldn’t resist.
Thanks for your website and blog-they really are very valuable resources for the collector.
    Sincerely yours,
    Mark Sulllivan
