Bob Boyd, a receiver for the Los Angeles Rams from 1950 to 1957, passed away earlier this month. With Norm Van Brocklin quarterbacking, Boyd led the NFL in receiving yards in 1954 with 1212.

Pictured here is Boyd’s rookie card, a brilliant 1951 Bowman. He also appeared on 1955 Bowman, 1957 Topps, and 1958 Topps cards.

Bob Boyd was my best friend when we played football on the San Diego Naval Training Center team in 1952.Bob was perhaps the fasted pro player in the NFL(at the time)outside of Buddy Young. The first two times Bob touched the ball in our first game he scored on kickoff returns. The Rams had won the champtionship in 1951(no Super Bowl then)and we played them at the coliseum with Van Brocklin as the Rams quarterback. They barely won 10-0 with a 40-50 yard long pass.We won the National Service football champtionship in 1952 and Bob was terrific! Bob was a wonderful person and a great friend.I was proud to be a part of a super team after having played center at Santa Clara and the Shrine East-West game.
